Evernorth Prepares for Its Nasdaq Debut

Evernorth, the Ripple-backed digital asset treasury company, is scheduled to begin trading on Nasdaq today under the ticker XRPN. The listing follows its merger with the SPAC Armada Acquisition Corp. II, which shareholders approved on September 30. The timetable slipped twice: closing moved from October 7 to October 9, and trading from October 8 to October 12. The company called the delay administrative.

Evernorth expects to hold about 473 million XRP, which would make it the largest publicly traded pure-play XRP treasury company. The deal and its related private placements brought in more than $1 billion in total support, part of it contributed in XRP rather than cash.

A Volatile Run-Up and a Weaker XRP

The path to the listing has been bumpy. Armada’s shares, which already trade under XRPN, fell about 50% on October 6 after a sharp rally. Heavy redemptions in SPAC deals can leave few shares in public hands, so those swings are an imperfect guide to what the combined company will be worth.

XRP has also lost ground since the deal was signed, when part of the tokens was priced near $2.37. In early October it traded around $1.39 to $1.49, which puts the treasury at roughly $700 million. Analysts also note that the debut itself does not create new demand for XRP, because most of the treasury was funded before the listing.

Bitcoin Consolidates Below $84,000

Bitcoin briefly moved above $84,000 on Monday before slipping back to about $83,500, while Ether traded near $2,545. Total crypto market capitalization stands near $2.9 trillion, and the Fear & Greed Index reads 69, in “Greed” territory. Easing concerns about technology stocks have supported US equities: the S&P 500 gained more than 1% last week and the Nasdaq rose for a fourth straight week.

The Week Ahead for Markets

US bond markets are closed for Columbus Day, while equities remain open. Traders are watching Fed Governor Christopher Waller’s speech and earnings from Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan on Tuesday. September CPI is due Wednesday, followed by PPI and a speech from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh on Thursday. Investors broadly expect the Fed to leave rates unchanged at its October meeting, so inflation data is the main near-term driver for risk assets.

What to Watch

Evernorth’s first trading sessions will show whether investors treat XRPN as a useful proxy for XRP or mainly as a volatile SPAC trade. For Bitcoin, a firm hold above $83,000 after the inflation prints would support the current consolidation. A hotter-than-expected reading could test it. Crypto remains a high-risk asset class, and this article is not investment advice.
