About Bitpanda

The Bitpanda Card is an EU-only product that earns its place in this rating for one lesson rather than for its own merits: the economics of a crypto debit card are decided by the conversion spread far more than by the reward rate. Every purchase funded from a crypto balance is a conversion, and the cost of that conversion — usually a spread rather than a stated fee — is subtracted from every transaction, where the cashback is a percentage of it. A card paying 1% while charging 1.5% on conversion is a card that costs money to use, and reward tables never show that.

Our verdict

An EU-only card that is worth one line for a lesson it teaches the whole category.

Bitpanda retired BEST — the very token it had told cardholders to accumulate for higher cashback and VIP tiers. It stopped trading in July 2025 and is being force-converted into a different token, and the perks it unlocked were simply cancelled. You were not only taking price risk on the issuer’s token; you were taking the risk that the issuer deletes it. Cashback is now a flat 1%, and the card is EU-only.

Bitpanda Card FAQ

Why does the conversion spread matter more than cashback?

+

Because it applies to every purchase and it is usually larger. Spending crypto through a debit card converts it at the issuer's rate, and if that rate sits 1% to 2% below market, the conversion cost exceeds a 1% reward on every transaction. The reward is advertised; the spread is not.

Who it’s not for

US residents. And anyone who assumed a loyalty token they were told to hold could not simply be discontinued.
