Godex: instant exchangers rating breakdown
The clearest reminder in this category to read the rate, not the fee. Its API returns `fee: "0"` in the response body, its title reads "No KYC ... Lowest Fees", and its homepage promises "no hidden fees" — all true. And yet it quoted us the widest spread of any service we could measure: an average of about 1.89% below mid-market, and 2.31% on a small BTC→ETH swap, at the same second its competitors were quoting half that. The commission genuinely is zero. The price is simply carried somewhere else.

How the score is built
Each criterion is scored 0–10 and weighted. The median column is the middle score across every entry in this ranking, so a row reads as a position rather than a number.

Real rate vs mid-market: 3/10
Measured by us. We request a quote for the identical pair and identical amount from every service inside the same short window, and compare the output amount to the mid-market rate at that timestamp. The gap is the true price, expressed as a percentage — regardless of what the fee page says. Quotes only; nothing is executed, so this measurement is free and repeatable, which is exactly why we can run it monthly and nobody else does.
Scored 3 of 10 against a category median of 5, which places it 3rd of 4 among instant exchangers on this criterion. At a 45% weight that is 0.90 points below the median contribution of the weighted total. The best score in the category is 8, the worst 0.
Freeze risk and AML honesty: 2/10
This category’s real danger is not the spread — it is sending coins to a no-account service that then demands identity documents before it will release them. We read the published AML policy: does it state, BEFORE you send, what triggers a hold, what is required to clear it, and what happens to your money if you refuse? A service that only discovers its KYC obligations after it has custody of your coins is marked down hard.
Scored 2 of 10 against a category median of 3.5, which places it 3rd of 4 among instant exchangers on this criterion. At a 25% weight that is 0.38 points below the median contribution of the weighted total. The best score in the category is 6, the worst 0.
KYC thresholds and limits: 3/10
At what amount verification is demanded, and whether that threshold is published in advance.
Scored 3 of 10 against a category median of 4.5, which places it 3rd of 4 among instant exchangers on this criterion. At a 15% weight that is 0.23 points below the median contribution of the weighted total. The best score in the category is 7, the worst 0.
Coins and networks: 8/10
Pairs that actually return a quote when asked — taken from our own measurement run, not from the marketing claim of “900+ coins”.
Scored 8 of 10 against a category median of 8, which places it 2nd of 4 among instant exchangers on this criterion. At a 10% weight that is exactly level with the median of the weighted total. The best score in the category is 9, the worst 0.
Rate-type honesty: 7/10
Fixed and floating rates are both legitimate. Presenting a floating rate as though it were a guarantee is not. We check what the quote actually commits to.
Scored 7 of 10 against a category median of 8, which places it 3rd of 4 among instant exchangers on this criterion. At a 5% weight that is 0.05 points below the median contribution of the weighted total. The best score in the category is 9, the worst 0.

Questions about this score
Is Godex actually free?
+
The commission is zero and the exchange is not free. Its quote sat as much as 2.3% below the market rate in our measurement, which is where the cost lives. On a $5,000 swap that is roughly $115 — considerably more than most exchanges charge in explicit fees for the same conversion.
Why does a fixed rate cost more?
+
Because the service is taking price risk on your behalf between the quote and the settlement. That is a real product with a real cost, and it is why we compared fixed quotes against other fixed quotes: measuring a default fixed rate against everyone else's floating rate would have produced a difference that reflects the product, not the pricing.
